German citizenship application process is planned to be accelerated by the federal immigration and integration office. The German government already announced in May the launch of the supporting website even before implementing the new “Naturalization Law“.
The newly introduced website is called “Pass(t) Genau“. In the initial stages, two provinces in Germany are implementing the faster nationality process named Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Rhineland-Palatinate.
Overview of the Pass[t] Genau Project
The Pass[t] Genau initiative, launched by the Federal Immigration and Integration Council, aims to assist individuals interested in acquiring German citizenship. The project focuses on providing comprehensive support to help them obtain a German passport. To achieve this, an advisory network is being established in two pilot regions—Rhineland-Palatinate and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania—designed to streamline the naturalization process for both applicants and the relevant authorities.
Collaboration with AGARP
In Rhineland-Palatinate, the project benefits from a strong partnership with AGARP. This collaboration enables project staff to leverage existing frameworks and engage committed stakeholders in the region. By working closely with AGARP, the project can effectively integrate these elements into the sustainable growth of the advisory network.
Prioritizing Information and Support
At the heart of Pass[t] Genau is a commitment to providing essential information and high-quality support. To this end, dedicated volunteers are trained and prepared to serve as naturalization guides through workshops, training sessions, and educational excursions. These guides offer accessible first-contact information and assist applicants throughout the naturalization process, thereby easing the workload of local naturalization offices.
Platforms for Knowledge and Experience Sharing
The Pass[t] Genau initiative also fosters a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences at both state and federal levels. The project organizes public events on citizenship and naturalization practices, as well as (digital) roundtables aimed at facilitating dialogue and networking among stakeholders.
Project Operations and Funding
In Rhineland-Palatinate, the regional project team operates from the AGARP office. The project is overseen by the Friends of the Federal Immigration and Integration Council e.V. and is financially supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees, and Integration, along with the Federal Government Commissioner for Anti-Racism.
