A new online digitalized proactive tool has been launched by France for the residence permit renewal of foreign nationals. This tool will notify them in advance when it is time to apply for the renewal of the residence permit.
The non-EU nationals must get their residence permit renewed in time. When they apply after the expiry of the permit, they have to pay €180 extra as a fine.
The digital system sends automatic notifications to remind foreign nationals about their permit expiration four months, two months, and one week in advance. They need to renew their residence permits within this four-month to two-month period before the expiration date.
How does the new tool send notifications?
The residence permit holder will receive email and SMS alerts about their upcoming permit expiration date and the deadline to submit their renewal application. This new tool, developed in partnership with France’s foreign services reform program (PERSée), applies only to foreign nationals with residence permits issued under the digital administration system for foreigners in France (ANEF).
Residence permit title
Any foreigner aged over eighteen who wishes to stay in France must, after the expiration of a period of three months since their entry into France or beyond the validity of their visa, have a residence document called a residence permit title or card.
The request for a residence permit must be sent to the prefecture of the foreigner’s domicile. The interested party must provide a certain number of documents to support their request and undergo a medical examination. They must also pay various taxes.
