Swedish citizenship has been issued to the 37,668 foreigners living in Sweden this year till July. Overall, during this period, 17,797 women and 19,871 men have been granted the Swedsih nationality. On the other hand, citizens of Syria were granted the most citizenship status (4,733) followed by Eritrea and Iraq.
Top 5 countries awarded Swedish citizenship
During the period from Januray-July 2024, following countries’ nationals got the most nationality status:
- Syria has been awarded the most citizenships, with a total of 4,733.
- Eritrea follows with 3,746 citizenships awarded.
- Iraq ranks third, having received 1,440 citizenships.
- Somalia rounds out the top five, with 1,686 citizenships awarded.
- Indian nationals come up next, with 1,336 citizenships granted.
Countries nationals awarded least number of citizenships
Citizens of following countries, were awarded the least number of citizenships during January-July 2024:
- Liechtenstein, Mauritius, The Comoros, Vanuatu, and Turkmenistan each have only 1 citizenship awarded.
- Bahrain and Trinidad and Tobago each have been awarded 2 citizenships.
- Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Malawi, and Zambia each have 2 citizenships granted.
- Central African Republic, Laos, and Togo each have 4 citizenships awarded.
- Honduras, Iceland, and Mali each have 4 citizenships granted.
